Care home team members upskill in dementia therapy with Ayla

Care homes share the difference training in dementia therapy fuels morale and helps retain the people who make the greatest difference.

Upskill staff in dementia therapy

🧕 The care sector faces a persistent challenge: how to retain, empower, and upskill staff in a field where specialist dementia training is often limited.

‍

The Brain+ team recently had the pleasure of completing Ayla training with the incredible team at Agincare site Gainsborough in beautiful Dorset (pictured), and what a day it was.

🧡 The energy, enthusiasm and openness of the team were outstanding. Led by Vicky, the approach was all about creating a whole-home culture where everyone, from leadership, to frontline carers, to domestic services, plays a role in delivering meaningful, person-centred engagement every single day.

It’s this collective mindset that makes the difference: recognising that cognitive stimulation and connection aren’t “activities” that happen once a week, but an integral part of how residents living with dementia experience life and feel valued.

In the video below, Karim Nanji, Care Home Operator, Southcare Homes Group, also explains how this is where Ayla has had one of its most profound effects.

Southcare Homes Group Builds Staff Pride

“Our activity coordinators are now trained as dementia therapists,” he explains. “It’s been confidence-building and culture-changing.”

👨🎓 By turning everyday staff into CST facilitators, Brain+ and Southcare Homes are redefining the role of frontline carers. Instead of “running activities,” staff now deliver structured, therapeutic sessions backed by evidence and guided by technology.

The result?

👉 A stronger sense of professional identity .

Care staff report that residents are more responsive, and families are taking notice. This recognition fuels morale and helps retain the people who make the greatest difference.

In an era of workforce shortages, this approach offers a double benefit: improved resident outcomes and renewed staff pride. As Karim puts it, ✨ “It changes how our teams see themselves and how others see them.” ✨
